Our wall mounted chalkboards are the epitome of the educational blackboard surface. Thought to have come into use in the 16th century to aid in music education, chalkboards or blackboards have been a staple of classrooms everywhere due to their ease of use and erasable surface. Additionally, chalk or calcium sulfate is produced inexpensively, comes in many colors, don't dry out, and makes a good contrast to the blackboard surface. When you use chalk to write on a chalkboard, it doesnt have a strong odor like whiteboard markers do. One disadvantage, though is that chalk does produce chalk dust and can be a little more difficult to clean than a whiteboard marker. Chalkboards don't stain like whiteboards do. Since chalk is primarily used, there is little chance of a student or staffer writing on a wall mounted chalkboard with the improper kind of marker.
